Full details of Rosemary Russell’s publications in chronological order, starting with the most recent.

Other ways that I have been able to disseminate my research include:

  • I spoke on the topic of Parenting for Mathematical Resilience, at the Mathematical Resilience Conference, hosted by The University of Warwick, March 4th-6th 2016. (Mathematical Resilience).
  • I spoke, along with Dr Janet Goodall, on the topic of Parenting for Mathematical Resilience, at the Mathematical Resilience – making it happen, The Shard Symposium, held at The Shard, in London, 16 Jan 2015. (Mathematical Resilience).
  • I gave a briefing to James Croft (Director of CMRE) in February 2013 about my research and recommendations regarding private tuition. James contacted me at the behest of Professor Judy Ireson, (Emerita Professor of Psychology in Education, Institute of Education).
  • I gave a briefing to the Minister of State for Education, Nick Gibb MP, in November 2010 on how better to involve parents with their children’s mathematics learning.
  • I gave a briefing to policy analysts from the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit at the Cabinet Office in August 2005.
  • Rachel Carlyle, from The Sunday Express, contacted Continuum, the publishers of my last two books, wanting to find out about my work, and to write a feature about parents helping their children with maths. Following an interview with me, my work was featured in Rachel Carlyle’s article, ‘Children struggling with their sums? You do the maths, says our expert’, S Magazine, pp 44-45, 19 October 2008 (Colour Supplement of Sunday Express). Express Newspapers: London.
  • I worked with the Bournemouth LEA Parents Supporting Numeracy group (2003 – 2005).

Using my PhD dissertation, Russell, R.A. (2002) Parents Helping Their Children With Mathematics, University of Bristol: PhD Thesis, as a starting point, we developed strategies on how schools could best support parents help their children with numeracy. Members of the group included a KS3 Numeracy Consultant, Head of Mathematics from a grammar school, a teaching assistant who had a high profile at a new start school and the KS3 Numeracy Co-ordinator from a comprehensive.

  • Being interviewed as an expert on parents helping their children with maths by soap star Patsy Palmer as part of the BBC’s televised 2000 numeracy campaign ‘Count me In’. The aim of the campaign was to reach and to involve parents (grouped as “C2, D and E”) in helping their children with maths.
  • ‘Helping parents to help with maths’, advice aimed at teachers, and an accompanying leaflet for parents, ‘How to help
yourself and your child with maths’, written in August 2000 for Dorset County Council.
  • ‘Helping your child with maths’. An article I wrote which appeared in the support booklet which accompanied the BBC’s 1997 numeracy campaign ‘Count me In’.
  • Various radio interviews for local BBC radio stations.
